Zero to 5k presents a structured running program tailored for novice runners. The plan spans over 9 weeks, incorporating three weekly activities that alternate between running and walking. Progression within the program involves a gradual increase in running duration coupled with a reduction in walking intervals, culminating in the achievement of completing a full 5km run.
The application acts as a virtual coach, providing step-by-step guidance on when and for how long to run or walk. Even while running outdoors with the app in the background, users can expect timely notifications accompanied by sound cues instructing them on the next running or walking segment.
Flexibility within the program allows individuals to regress to previous stages if faced with challenges, ensuring a comfortable and tailored experience for all users.
Zero to 5k introduces an additional feature known as Heart Rate Training, offering users an alternative approach to the running program. This feature enables individuals to maintain an optimal heart rate zone during their runs, utilizing heart rate readings (bpm) to guide their efforts. Participants receive real-time notifications on their devices alerting them when they have reached their minimum and maximum heart rates, prompting adjustments in their running or walking pace.
Effort range calculation is simplified within the Zero to 5k app, leveraging age as a key parameter for determining optimal effort levels. Users can easily compute their maximum heart rate by subtracting their age from 220, resulting in an optimal effort range between 75% and 90% of this maximum heart rate.
Moreover, participants have the option to manually customize their desired minimum and maximum heart rate settings, enhancing personalization and control over their training sessions.
